My work here focused on texturing a character and wings through layered effects, light and subtle motion to create atmosphere and emotional depth.
Custom After Effects Workflow development
In this scene, compositing became a central part of the storytelling. Working in Adobe After Effects, I integrated multiple layers from the animation pipeline, including character animation, hand-drawn elements, textures and particle effects.
The focus was on developing the wing’s texture and presence, each layer was carefully adjusted to build depth and maintain a cohesive visual language within the scene.
This compositing workflow involved organizing complex layered compositions and integrating assets from different stages of production. The process included:
- Structuring multi-layer compositions for clarity and efficiency
- Timing adjustments to match the rhythm of the animation
- Color balancing to unify character and background elements
- Fine-tuning opacity, blending and effects to control visual hierarchy
My approach combines technical precision with an understanding of the full animation pipeline, allowing for smooth integration between animation, direction and post-production.

As a director, I approach compositing as more than a technical stage. It is where the emotional tone of a scene is refined.
In this shot, the goal was to create a fragile, luminous quality that supports the themes of vulnerability, transformation and memory present in the film. Subtle variations in light, texture and movement were key to achieving this.
