Animated poem about a migrant's journey
This visual poem reflects on the emotions experienced from a migrant's perspective. It highlights dealing with the pain of watching family age (or fade…) at a distance.
Being faced with the contradictory feeling of missing home but longing to build a better life prospect abroad. A hardship that is often silenced in the face of sustaining an idealistic image of migration.
Here is a transcript of the poem:
Migrant:
You watch your parents wither
across the ocean.
Dive in new waters
looking for answers.
to find a reef of love and guilt,
that pulls you under and keeps you still.
At times, you feel
you must choose—
to live for them
or for yourself.
And though the tide
falls murky from your eyes,
to hurt
is to have loved deeply.
Always.
For now.

For this piece, many elements between 2D, 3D & Collage where combined to achieve the look. These different techniques where also used for the final animated poem.
